New Music Tuesday - Andy McKee - Mythmaker

It's still Tuesday here, and I just now had the chance to listen to Mythmaker, the new EP from the amazing guitarist Andy McKee. Andy has achieved a fair amount of notoriety for his YouTube videos of solo acoustic performances of "Africa" by Toto and "Everybody Wants To Rule The World" by Tears for Fears, as well as his own gorgeous compositions.

A couple of years ago, I had the amazing privilege of seeing Andy McKee open for Dream Theater on the Dramatic Tour of Events tour. That moment was life changing, because showed me that I could perform my music on my terms and share the stage with diverse bands. He's the reason I opened for the legendary guitarist Michael Schenker a few months ago, and why I'll be opening for Powerman 5000 this Sunday night. I have yet to meet him, but he has been instrumental in my journey.

So down to it: Mythmaker is four songs of gorgeous guitar music. His baritone acoustic sounds so resonant. He includes a delightful piano composition, and the final work is a multi-instrument piece featuring a wonderful electric guitar melody. In interviews, Andy has said that he plans to issue EPs more often as a way to get new music out to audiences on a regular basis. (This is an approach I also plan to puruse as soon as I finish Connection.) Do yourself a favor and buy Mythmaker ASAP.
